After the fullness of Easter yesterday, Dale and I made his daily evening rounds to check cattle. There is something that opens inside, when riding in the Plains and on the backroads … something reawakens in me – spiritually.
The air speaks different out here.
Not loud.
Not hurried.
Just steady … like it knows something we forget … knows something we need.
The little calves paused their scampering as we passed, soft eyes watching, then took off – the whole posse running and bucking.
Muddy tracks dented gentle behind us down country roads. And, for those moments, everything unnecessary fell away.
No noise.
No striving.
Just presence … just Presence.
And, I felt it again … that quiet place where God meets you without announcement. Suddenly, so aware of His nearness.
Not in the rush.
Not in the focus of the to-do list – the next task at hand … but, in the wide open.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” Psalm 19:1
Out here, it’s not hard to believe.
You can feel Him in the stretch of grass, in the hush between hooves, in the breath I didn’t realize I was holding.
And, maybe that’s the gift …
He doesn’t always come in more … sometimes He comes in less.
Less noise.
Less hurry.
Less lists.
Less of everything that keeps you and me from seeing Him right here, in our midst.
Can you feel it? Feel Him? Sometimes, a drive in the country with the windows down is the most potent and powerful remedy when the hurried pressure of our days tries to squeeze the life out of us. This is the place of His Presence. This is the space we long for.
Reawakened. Mmm.
In His Love and Light,
Angie
