Liv laid over into my lap yesterday when I watching the Twister movie. Nine years old, soft and still, letting me twirl her hair through my fingers like time might pause just for us.
Someday, she won’t fit here the same.
Someday, she’ll sit beside me instead of lay across me.
Someday, this small, sacred nearness will shift.
And, it made me think …
When we sit down and do the work of our days – the real work, the quiet work … like this … something holy gathers.
Power settles.
Love concentrates.
Not loud, not flashy … just steady and sure.
This is the work, too.
Holding her.
Being here.
Not missing it.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17 ESV
God is in this moment. In the strands of hair between my fingers. In this child who chose this place for this moment.
And, maybe the truest blessing … is simply noticing who walks through your door – and receiving them like the gift they are – knowing God ordained the moment, the choosing.
With this thought, I wonder what gifts you and I will receive today? Or, to whom will you be that gift?
In His Love and Light,
Angie
